A class morning

A morning at Acorn

The order stays the same from day to day, so children know what comes next.

  1. 9:00

    Step 1: Hellos and play

Families sign in at the door and children choose where to start: blocks, the play kitchen, the art table or a book.

  2. 9:30

    Step 2: Circle

A teacher leads songs, a story and the day's plan. Helper families sit at the edge of the circle.

  3. 9:50

    Step 3: Projects

Painting, clay, building or planting at low tables, with a teacher or a helper at each one.

  4. 10:30

    Step 4: Snack

Children serve themselves at a low table. The helper family sets it out and wipes up after.

  5. 10:50

    Step 5: Yard or movement

The yard when it's dry, the movement room when it's not. Seattle children go out in the rain.

  6. 11:20

    Step 6: Goodbye circle

One more song, a look back at the morning and a goodbye to each family at the door.

Before the first day

What to bring and wear

  • A change of clothes

Spare clothes in the backpack, labeled with your child's initials.

  • Shoes for the yard

Closed shoes or boots that can get wet and muddy.

  • A rain jacket

We go outside in the rain, so a hood or a hat helps.

  • A water bottle

Children fill it at the low sink and keep it in their cubby.
